7.7-magnitude quake rocks South Pacific



KATHMANDU: A 77.magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at the wee hours of Thursday about 415 kilometers east of Vao in New Caledonia at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to USGS.

Meanwhile, a tsunami warning has been issued for New Zealand, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and other nations in the region.

“Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within the next three hours,” the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
