Army overcomes Waling 2-0 to keep title hopes alive in Women’s League

KATMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) defeated Waling Municipality Syangja 2-0 and remain in pursuit of the National Women’s League title on Tuesday.

Sharmila Thapa and Bimala Chaudhary scored in the first half to give TAFC the win at ANFA Complex in Saatdobato.
Thapa scored in the first minute while Chaudhary added another three minutes before half-time in the win.

TAFC coach Raju Tamang said he was happy to emerge as a winner against a tough opponent like Waling.

“The early goal helped our cause. Our defense was also good today stopping their strikers,” said Tamang.

Waling Coach Dilip Thapa said conceding an early goal put them under pressure.

“My players did well but the early goal put pressure on us. That goal changed the context of the game,” said Thapa.

TAFC reduced the gap over table-toppers Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF) to two points.

Waling is third on the table with a point above Biratnagar Metropolitan City Morang and three points above Nepal Police Club.
