Fugitive accused involved in murder of journalist Dekendra arrested after 16 years



DAILEKH: Dailekh police have arrested a fugitive-accused involved in the murder of Dailekh-based journalist Dekendra Thapa, who was killed by the Maoists during the insurgency.

The arrested is Jaya Bahadur Shahi, 68, of Mahabu ruralmunicipality-6 of the Dailekh district, according to police. He was arrested by the police team deployed from the District Police Office, Dailekh.

According to Dailekh Police Chief, Anup Shrestha, Shahi, who was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the district court, has already served one year, seven months and one day in jail.

Shahi was released on parole after serving one year, seven months and one day in jail. He was abducted by the then Maoists from Naumule and held captive for 45 days and killed on August 11, 2004.

The body of Thapa, a journalist who was brutally killed, was found buried in the forest.

After the Maoists’ murder, Thapa’s wife Laxmi had lodged a complaint against nine persons at the District Police Office, Dailekh on August 21 , 2008. Police had arrested five people at that time.
