KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that he was shocked by the news of the murder of a teenage girl in Chadepani, Baitadi.

Koirala took to social media on Sunday and demanded action against the perpetrators of the incident.

“I am shocked by the news of rape and murder of 17-year-old Bhagarathi Bhatta, a resident of Chadepani-7, Dogadakedar, Baitadi, while returning home from school,” Koirala said, “I demand the government to take action against the perpetrators.”

He has also urged the government not to give immunity to the perpetrators like in the Nirmala Pant incident.

Bhatta was found dead in the local lablek jungle on Thursday evening, during a search carried out after she did not return home from school on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police have ‘accelerated’ the investigation process into the incident of alleged rape and murder.

A team led by senior superintendent of police (SSP) Janak Raj Pandey has started an investigation into the case.

Furthermore, a separate team led by DSP at the Central Investigation Bureau has also been mobilized for technical support to the investigation. Trained sniffer dogs are also being used to help with the investigation.
