Lawmaker Pal advises PM Oli to do away with federalism

KATHMANDU: Lawmaker of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) Niru Devi Pal has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to do away with the federalism.

Posting a Facebook message on the eve of the mass assembly organized today, Pal advised Prime Minister Oli to go to the elections with an agenda of scrapping the federalism.

Describing the existing federalism as the ‘white elephant’, Pal stated that the provincial governing structure should be scrapped by further empowering the local governments.

“Small country like Nepal which is already in huge debt cannot afford the costly federalism any more.  We politicians are happy as we are enjoying the posts of chief ministers and ministers but the people in general are bearing the brunt of the costly federalism.  It is bleeding the state coffers,” said Pal.

Lawmaker Pal has further suggested reduction in cost of security for the leaders, delivering services to the people at their door steps by empowering the local governments.

She also batted for directly elected prime ministerial governing system in the country.
