Singer Dhan Bahadur Gandharva passes away

POKHARA: Dhan Bahadur Gandharva, the composer of over a dozen folk songs and a skilled instrumentalist, has passed away.

Singer Purushottam Neupane informed that he died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara on Monday morning.

Dhan Bahadur, 59, was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and died at 9 am on Monday.

Dhan Bahadur, a resident of Batulechaur, Pokhara Metropolitan City-16, has composed ‘Yo Daju ko Mirmire Aakha’ which is considered to be a very popular song.

Dhan Bahadur had retired from the Pokhara Municipal Corporation government job last year. He has also trained as a music teacher at the Music Training Center Bindhyavasini.

He also formed the ‘Jhalakman Gandharva Music School Foundation’ in the name of the late artist Jhalakman Gandharva.

As the president of this academy, he used to teach Sarangi and Madal. He is also the founding chairman of the folk music group Pokhara.
