Govt borrowing reaches 1.4 trillion; every Nepali owes Rs 46,354



KATHMANDU: The public debt taken by the government to fund its spending on public services and benefits has reached Rs 1.4 trillion.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the government borrowing had reached Rs 1,400,915,600,000  as of December 15, 2020.

This amount is an excess by Rs 88,200,000,000 compared to last mid-July to mid-August.

The public debt was Rs 1,312,710,000,000 as of August 16, 2020.

Of the total public debt taken by the government, Rs 670,740,000,000 is internal borrowing while Rs 820,820,000,000 is foreign.

If the outstanding government borrowing is shared by the current population of Nepal (32,201,705), every single Nepali is in debt of Rs 46,354.
