KATHMANDU: Garuda Indonesia, the national flag carrier of Indonesia, is set to make a direct flight from capital Jakarta to Kathmandu.
The company has appointed Society International Travel Service as General Sales Agent (GSA) in Nepal.
According to Sangita Rauniyar, Head of Operations at the Society International Travel Services, Garuda Indonesia plans to operate direct flights from Soikerno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to Tribhuvan International Airport from next June-July.
Likewise, Nepal’s national flag carrier — Nepal Airlines Corporation — is also planning to fly to Indonesia.
According to the 10-year business action plan of the Nepal Airlines Corporation, it is planning to expand its service to Indonesia with its wide-body aircraft from 2023.
Currently, Malindo Air is flying from Malaysia for passengers going to Indonesia.
Garuda Indonesia is the country’s state-owned airline. The company now connects Jakarta with more than 60 destinations.
