KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has given permission to reopen schools in the metropolis from January 14.
All the schools in Kathmandu district have not resumed their operations since the country imposed lockdown on March 24 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
With only three months to go before the current academic session, the KMC is making preparations to resume schools from January 14.
Schools have been allowed to resume operations by adopting health safety measures, said Ishwarman Dangol, the spokesperson of the KMC.
The schools in the KMC had been operating online classes since April as per the direction from the government.
Teachers and guardians have complaining that the virtual classes cannot be as effective as the real ones.
According to the records maintained by the Education Development and Coordination Unit, there are 1,415 schools in Kathmandu district. Of them, 1,140 are private and 275 are community schools.
Similarly, there are 93 community and 642 private schools in the Kathmandu metropolis.
