SC hearing writ on NCP’s name today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petition on the name of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Tuesday.

A joint bench of Justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Kumar Regmi is hearing the case.

Rishi Raj Kattel, on December 6, had filed a case seeking revocation of the name of the NCP arguing that he had already registered this name at the office of the Election Commission.

This case which had been sub-judice in the court for the last three years has been scheduled for final hearing today.

Today’s hearing will decide who will own the name. If the SC decides in favor of Kattel, the name of the party formed through the merger between the two parties will be revoked.

On October 25, the Commission had decided on this issue in favor of the ruling NCP. Kattel moved the SC challenging the decision of the Commission.
