PM Oli likely to embark on India visit amidst political crisis

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli is likely to embark on India visit in January amidst a political crisis in the country following parliament dissolution and split in the ruling party, an Indian media reported.

ABP reported that the date of Prime Minister Oli’s visit to India is almost fixed and he is likely to leave for the southern neighbor on January 4.

Before Prime Minister Oli, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali will visit India to prepare for the Prime Minister’s visit, the report added.

The government that has decided to dissolve the House of Representatives and hold new mid-term elections will not forge an agreement on issues of long-term importance during Prime Minister Oli’s visit to India, the report said.

However, Foreign Minister Gyawali said that no preparations have been made for the Prime Minister’s visit to India.

“There was talk of exchanging high-level visits during the visit by Indian Foreign Secretary,” Minister Gyawali was quoted as saying, “That issue is a priority, but no concrete initiatives have been taken.”

India on Thursday had stated that it has noted recent political developments in Nepal.

Speaking at a weekly press conference organized at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Indian External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Shrivastav said the current development was an internal matter of Nepal.

“We’ve noted recent political developments in Nepal. These are internal matters for Nepal to decide as per its democratic processes. As a neighbor, India will continue to support Nepal and its people in moving forward on the path of peace, prosperity, and development,” he said.
