JHAPA: Jhapa district in Province no 1 has been declared as the district free of beggars after rescuing the helpless people living by begging in the streets. As many as 74 helpless persons have been rescued from the street in this connection on Thursday.
The rescue work was carried out in the coordination of the Province no 1 Government’s ministry of social development and with the support of all the 15 local levels in the district and the Manav Sewa Ashram Biratnagar.
The rescued helpless people were given a shower, hair cut, new clothes and food. Their health was also examined and the needy ones were given primary health care.
All the rescued persons would be sheltered at the Manav Sewa Ashram at Biratnagar, founding president of the Ashram, Ramji Adhikari, said. He said the local level would bear the cost for food and accommodation as well as the medical care of those rescued people.
