Paudel faction to pile pressure on Deuba to hit streets against HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Paudel has held a separate meeting with the leaders of his faction after President Sher Bahadur Deuba refused to hit the streets against the government’s move to dissolve the parliament.

Paudel held a separate meeting after President Deuba did not agree to his proposal to stage nationwide demonstrations against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) in the CC meeting at Sanepa yesterday.

Against Paudel’s proposal to join hands with the Prachanda-Nepal faction, President Deuba suggested to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court and prepare for the mid-term polls, accordingly.

According to a CC member privy to the meeting, Deuba and Paudel engaged in a heated discussion over the issue.

Deuba is of the opinion that the NC to form a strategy to go for the mid-term polls and garner a majority of votes by capitalizing on the government’s move to dissolve the HoR.

On the other hand, Poudel has been saying that the NC has to hit the streets for the reinstatement of the HoR arguing that the government’s move is unconstitutional, anti-democratic and against the mandate of the people.

Paudel has held a meeting with the leaders of his faction at the liaison office in Anamnagar this morning and decided to heap pressure on Deuba to stage nationwide demonstrations to reinstate the HoR. General Secretary Shashanka Koirala,  Prakash Man Singh, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Mahesh Acharya and Gagan Thapa were present in the meeting.
