NCP appoints Mahara as Standing Committee member

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has appointed former Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Krishna Bahadur Mahara as Standing Committee member.

A meeting of Standing Committee members close to NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal held at Baluwatar on Sunday decided to appoint Mahara as SC member.

Mahara had renounced the party membership after being elected the Speaker.

He later resigned as the Speaker after rape allegations by a Parliament Secretariat staffer last year.
