Kathmandu-Delhi flight resumes from today

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu-Delhi flight has resumed from today. Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is conducting a flight to Delhi today after nine months.

NAC’s Airbus A 320 has taken off from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 11 am for Delhi today, said a TIA source.

The two countries had earlier agreed to bring flights into operations that had been shut down since March 24 due to COVID-19 pandemic in line with the ‘Air Bubble Policy’.

Under this policy, only Nepali and Indian citizens will enjoy this air service, that too, in a limited number of passengers.

Nepal Airlines will conduct the first flight from Kathmandu to Delhi followed by Air India as per the agreement.

Both Nepal and India will conduct two flights a day between Kathmandu to Delhi, as per the agreement.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 25 had decided to accept the ‘air bubble model’ proposed by India regarding resumption of flights between the two countries.

Regarding operating flights to other countries, the Council of Ministers decided that the Ministry could grant permission for the same based on the need.

The flights would be operated after the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the regulatory body, together with India’s aviation agency, prepares the flight standards.
