SURKHET: A cold storage set up on the initiation a farmer’s group at Chhinchu of Bheriganga municipality-12 in Surkhet has come into operation.
The facility, the first of its kind in the entire Karnali Province, was established on the initiation of people associated with the local Nari Jagaran Multipurpose Farmers’ Group.
The cold storage comprising four blocks with the capacity of storing 50 tons each. The Directorate of Agricultural Development has funded Rs seven million to the project while the Bheriganga municipality has invested Rs 6.5 million followed by Rs 3.9 million by the Raising Incomes of Small and Middle Farmers and Rs 2.9 million by the Group.
Besides, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives had allocated Rs 1.5 million and the Gurbhakot municipality has borne Rs 500 thousand for the same.
As said by group chair Gyanu Bhusal, with the establishment of cold room, they are no need to travel to Kohalpur taking their produces. With the operation of the cold storage, 663 sacks of ginger have been stored.
