Bibeksheel Sajha Party expresses solidarity with sugarcane farmer’s agitation

KATHMANDU: The Bibeksheel Sajha Party has expressed its solidarity in the agitation of sugarcane farmers demanding arrears from the sugar mills.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, Bibeksheel Sajha has sought government’s affirmative move to resolve the issue as agreed on the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies’ facilitation last year.

The party has requested all the party ranks to extend necessary support to the sugarcane farmers in their movement.

“We urged all citizens and the party ranks to extend necessary support to the sugarcane farmers participating in the agitation in Kathmandu in this cold winter,” the party’s statement reads adding, “If the government is on the side of the farmers, we urge the government to take immediate responsibility and resolve the problem so that the farmers protesting for their dues of many years need not protest even a day more now.”

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies had agreed on January 3, to facilitate and provide the farmers’ arrears through the mills within a month. However, the agreement is not implemented by the mill owners.

The Sugarcane farmers of Sarlahi have come to Kathmandu for agitation and are protesting at Maitighar today.
