KMC to introduce local curriculum at primary level

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to create teachers’ quotas at all community schools in the city to introduce the local curriculum at the primary level from the next academic session.

Implementation of the local curriculum from the academic session this year has been halted due to the closure of educational institutions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are 91 community and 541 institutional schools within the metropolis and the local curriculum at the primary level (from grade 1 to 8) would be implemented from the next academic session, said Namraj Dhakal, chief of the Education Department at the metropolis.

The KMC was at work to send teachers and textbooks to the schools in this regard, he added. Recently, the metropolis’ 53rd executive meeting decided to provide training to the teachers to be assigned to teach the local curriculum in the school.

Currently, there are 42,000 students at community schools in the metropolis and 220,000 at institutional schools.

Likewise, community schools have 1,791 teachers.
