6th Nepalgunj Marathon to kick off on Nov 22



NEPALGUNJ: The 6th edition of Nepalgunj Marathon is going to be organized from November 22 this year.

According to Creative Hands, the host organization of the Marathon, Nepalgunj  marathon which is organized to mark the day the Comprehensive Peace Accord was signed between then government and the agitating Nepal Communist Party Maoist on November 21, 2006.

TS Thakuri, the Chairman of Nepalgunj Marathon informed that National Sports Council(NSC) has already granted permission for the event.

Thakuri added that Nepalgunj marathon is held as an occasion to make selection for Olympic selection.

According to him, the event has also been instrumental in enhancing ties between Kohalpur and Nepalgunj.

The organizers informed that the number of events have been reduced this time as a precaution against the widespreading coronavirus pandemic.

The athletes from Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Province will take part in the event.

The history of Nepalgunj Marathon shows that athletes from Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been performing the best in the events included.

Hom Lal Shrestha from and Krishna Basnet of NA had bagged the title of first and second edition whereas Durga Budha Jumla and Bhumi Raj Rai had got the crown of 3rd and 4th edition respectively. The fifth edition was won by NA’s Naba Raj Saud again retaining NA hold in all editions so far.

Similarly, Women’s Half Marathon was crowned by Kanchhimaya Koju two times, the latest edition was was won by Purna Laxmi Neupane of Nepal Army.
