KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed solidarity to the campaign offering free meal to the pandemic struck people in Kathmandu and has lambasted the Metropolitan authority for discouraging the noble humanitarians.
Commenting on the Kathmandu Mayor’s vow not to let the group continue feeding the poor in Khulamanch as it has increased the coronavirus spread risk and portrayed the city of beggars, Joint Secretary of Nepali Congress Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat reiterated that the humanitarian workers should never be discouraged.
“The Metropolitan city which should have offered the food and shelter when the people here got pandemic struck,” Dr. Mahat also the coordinator of NC’s COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment Monitoring Committee said, “It’s unacceptable.”
In the meantime, NC leader Bhimsen Das Pradhan donated ten thousand rupees to the groups offering free food and reiterated that the authority should have either encouraged the humanitarian workers or helped the needy before the group started helping.
Earlier, in a press conference today, Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya had warned not to depict Kathmandu as the city of beggars.
