Traffic Police plants ‘gurjo’ in barren land in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has initiated a campaign of planting multi-advantageous tinospara cordifolia, popularly known as gurjo in the fallow lands of the Kathmandu Valley.

According to SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the Chief of Metropolitan Traffic Division Kathmandu, around 1,500 gurjo plants have been planted in various parts of Kathmandu including the formerly unused areas  like Tinkune in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The multi-beneficial herbal plant gurjo, now popular for its medicinal value in enhancing immunity, has been planted in each traffic police office as well.

SSP Dhakal claimed that all 44 traffic police offices in  Kathmandu have planted five gurjo plants in each office on Saturday.

SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, SP Rameshwor Prasad Yadav and many other personnel had actively participated in the gurjo plantation program.

“The traffic police working on the frontline in the streets are highly vulnerable to the pandemic like coronavirus, gurjo is very useful to such personnel, hence we have initiated the campaign of utilizing the barren field for gurjo farming,” SSP Dhakal said, adding, “all 44 offices have also planted gurjo in their office yards.”

The MTPD informed that the gurjo plants have been made available to the police by  Kamal Bahadur Rajalwat, the chief of Pubic Revenue Office, Lahan and Kishor Joshi, the joint secretary at National Planning Commission.
