Call for immediate supply of food to upper Dolpa

DOLPA: A meeting of the District Food Security Committee has decided to demand the supply of food at three local levels in the northern belt of Upper Dolpa within mid-November.

The demand was made in keeping with the food crisis potentially resulting in the Himalayan district during the winter season. Committee chairperson and District Coordination Committee Sher Bahadur Budha shared that a decision was made to request for the supply of food to Shey Phoksundo, Dolpobuhhda, and Chharkatangson rural municipalities located in the upper Dolpa through surface route by coming November 15.

“There is an imminent crisis of food in upper Dolpa during the winter season as China did not allow transportation of food via Morimla and Kyato checkpoints through its autonomous region, Tibet, due to coronavirus outbreak”, he said.

The meeting decided to request the federal and state governments and Food Management and Trade Company as well as other concerned agencies for the supply of food in the district in view of the food crisis.

The food crisis has been resulted in the upper belt of the district when the locals could not pick Yarsagumba, the main source of income, due to coronavirus and contractors were not allowed to supply the subsidized foodstuffs such as rice and salt to the area.
