KATHMANDU: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded that the government should send a protest note regarding the Chinese encroachment in Nepal’s territory in Humla.
Issuing a press release on Wednesday, NC has come down heavily on the government over its silence on the intrusion of Nepali territory in Humla.
A team of lawmakers and high officials including NC Central Committee Member Jeewan Bahadur Shahi had recently visited the “intruded territory” and had made the details of encroachment public in a press conference recently.
NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma has blamed the government that it had been attempting to conceal the matter of encroachment.
“The government that had been too quick to respond claiming China has not trespassed the territory has kept silence even after getting the evidence of encroachment public,” NC spokesperson said in the statement, adding, “Nepali Congress has taken this issue very seriously.”
The release has cited the details provided by Central Committee Member Shahi and has objected that the government has not kept the record of encroachment and rather than investigating sincerely it has taken action to the Assistant Chief District Officer for informing about the encroachment.
“The series of events like the government declaration that the land is not encroached rather than waiting for the field visit report, the censorship on the report and denial to make the report public, and turning deaf ears to the proofs and report prepared after the field visit by the parliamentary group of main opposition party in the province and the government’s silence on the issue is tragic, shameful and regrettable,” the statement says.
The statement signed by NC spokesperson Sharma has made it clear that land encroachment is always unacceptable whether it’s done by India or China.
Regarding the government ‘silence’ as treason against nation, NC has asked the government to come out with its opinion and work out to seek consensus on it and send the protest note to Chinese government.
NC has demanded the government to initiate action to resolve issue through diplomatic channel.
