 Health experts suggest lockdown in capital as cases spike



KATHMANDU: COVID-19 cases have increased in an alarming rate in the Kathmandu Valley, of late.

As many as 2,540 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the valley in a single day on Thursday. An average of 700 to 1,200 people are getting infected with the coronavirus in the capital.

A total of 183 people have died from the coronavirus in the capital.

“If the cases increased at this rate, patients will be deprived of treatment after a few days,” said Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari.

Health experts have advised the government to impose lockdown for a certain period to stem the coronavirs spread in the Kathmandu valley.

“The number of coronavirus cases is increasing due to our own recklessness,” said Dr Jageshwor Gautam, the spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, adding, “We are not following safety measures.”

According to Dr Sher Bahadur Pun of Shukraraaj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, only 50 percent safety measures are being followed.
