Talks between govt and Dr. KC’s representatives end inconclusively

KATHMANDU: Talks between the government team and Dr. Govinda KC’s representatives ended inconclusively on Thursday.

Talks were held at the Ministry of Education to address the demands of Dr. KC who has been on a hunger strike for 25 days with various demands related to medical education and good governance.

The talks ended at 8:30 pm without reaching conclusion, Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, a member of KC’s team said.

It may be noted that the government on Wednesday formed a team to hold talks with Dr. KC, who is staging a fast-unto-death at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).

Members of the government’s team include Dr. Gopi Mainali, Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology, Dr. Gunaraj Lohani, Joint Secretary at Ministry of Health and Population and Dilip Sharma, Director of Medical Education Commission.

Likewise, a four-member talk team has also been formed from the side of Dr KC with members including Dr Jiwan Chhetri, Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, Dr. Lochan Karki and advocate Om Prakash Aryal.

Dr. KC, who is on the 25th day of his 19th fast-unto-death at the TUTH started his hunger strike calling for the implementation of his past agreements reached with the government.

Campaigner for reforms in the medical sector in Nepal, Dr. KC has said he would not break his hunger strike this time until a reliable base is formed for the implementation of his past agreements.
