KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress is unlikely to hold its 14th National Convention on February 19-22, 2021 under the current circumstances posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
It has not been able to distribute active memberships at all the wards due to the pandemic.
Similarly, the integration process has also not been concluded in all the districts as per the agreement reached with the then Nepal Democratic Forum on October 14, 2017.
The integration process has completed in 73 districts and now it is yet to be concluded in remaining four districts (Siraha, Saptari, Bara and Sindhupalchowk) said Radheshyam Adhikari, the coordinator of NC Central Election Committee.
As many as 70 districts where the unification process is over have taken away forms for the renewal of active memberships and new memberships.
Earlier, a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on July 6 had set July 25 as the deadline to conclude the integration.
NC Chief Secretary Krishna Paudel said the party is making preparations to finalize the distribution of active memberships by October 16.
The conventions at all levels will be completed within two months after the distribution of the active memberships, according to the plan, said Paudel.
Similarly, NC office-bearers’ meeting on August 6 had decided to increase cent percent active memberships for the 14th National Convention.
A CWC meeting to be held on Sunday (October 11) will amend the date of the 14th National Convention, said Paudel.
If the NC fails to hold the convention on the stipulated date, it can be extended by six months and held by mid-September 2021 in accordance with the party statute.
