Parliamentary committee begins hearing of proposed ambassadors; calls to lodge complaints



KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has started hearing process for the proposed ambassadors to the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa.

The committee has called people to lodge complaints against the proposed envoys, if any, within 10 days.

The committee meeting held today called people to lodge complaints for the proposed ambassadors to the United States, Dr. Yuvraj Khatiwada, the proposed Ambassador to the UK, former Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi and the proposed Ambassador to South Africa, Dr Nirmal Kumar Bishwakarma starting from tomorrow.

Chairman of the committee Laxman Lal Karna said that the complaint was called as per Article 12 of the Parliamentary Committee Rules of Procedure 2075 BS.

Khatiwada has been recommended as a resident Ambassador to the United States, as well as ambassadors to Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

The government had also decided to recommend former chief secretary Regmi as a resident ambassador to the UK and a non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Ireland and the Republic of Malta.

Similarly, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Vishwakarma has been recommended for the post of Resident Ambassador to South Africa and non-resident ambassador to Kenya, Congo, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and other countries.
