COVID-19: Nepal’s infection rate doubles that of India



KATHMANDU: India conducted PCR tests on 1,142,811 people on September 28. Of them, 70,589 people tested positive for the coronavirus. This is 6.17 percent.

On the same day, Nepal also conducted PCR testes on 10,080. Of them, 1,351 people tested positive for the virus, making it 13.40 percent.

Likewise, out of 12,205 people who underwent PCR tests in Nepal, 1,559 were diagnosed with the coronavirus. This is 12.77 percent.

Similarly, 14.05 people tested positive for the virus on Tuesday and 15.53 percent on Sunday.

According to Dr Suresh Tiwari, a health expert at the Ministry of Health and Population, the PCR testing scope should be widened when the positive cases go above 12 percent.

Southern neighbor India is the second worst-hit in terms of coronavirus cases after America. The number of coronavirus cases has reached 6,312,584 till Thursday morning, according to the latest figures collated by Worldometer.

The infection rate in Nepal is higher than that of India. The number of active cases in India is 15.4 percent while that of Nepal is 26.8 percent. Likewise, 83 percent of people in India have recovered while the recovery percentage in Nepal is 72.5.

Around 1,500 new cases are recorded on a daily basis in Nepal. Currently, 20,891 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals and home isolations. Meanwhile, additional 1,559 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Nepal.
