KATHMANDU: The national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has demanded the cancellation of the decision to allow ‘self ground handling’ facility to the Himalaya Airlines.

The NAC has reminded the global practice to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) that the self ground handling is conferred mostly on the national flag carrier, and Nepal too had adopted the same since the beginning of the aviation service.

But the recent decision of the CAAN to provide self ground handling facility to the Himalaya Airlines is against this practice. “There is a huge investment, so CAAN needs to scrap this decision,” NAC demanded.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the NAC said it has made a huge investment in its technical resources. Considering the expense as well, the permission of the facility is too unjust.

It has further reminded that the line ministry’s concern over it and hailed the ministry’s direction to the CAAN to scrap the decision.

The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, had already grilled the CAAN Managing Director Rajan Pokhrel as to why he took such a decision without informing the ministry and directed him not to implement the decision on permitting self ground handling to the Himalaya Airlines.
