1 killed, 2 missing as NEA vehicle washed away



KATHMANDU: A person died and two others went missing after a swollen river swept away a vehicle of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in Kapilvastu.

The pick-up van was washed away by the Koili River at Motipur in Banganda municipality-7 when the NEA staffers were returning home after fixing the electric line.

The pick-up van, Ba 1 Na 1089, was swept away by the river on Wednesday evening when they were returning home, said District Police Office, Kapilvastu.

The deceased has been identified as Madav Pande of Resunga municipality of Gulmi, a driver of the pick-up van.

His body has been recovered, said SP Nawaraj Adhikari of District Police Office.

Similarly, two others have gone missing. One of those missing is Krishna Paudel, the chief of NEA Jitpur branch while the other’s name is yet to be ascertained, said Adhikari.

Four staffers of NEA and two general people were in the ill-fated pick-up van.

Three including one staffer of NEA and two locals managed to save their life by swimming, said Bishnu Giri, ward chair of Banganga-7.
