KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli is against the idea of removing all ministers of his cabinet.

PM Oli expressed his intention of a cabinet reshuffle “soon” but floated an alternative to “remove quite a few” ministers, who have been alleged of not showing their performances up to the mark.

“Yes, PM Oli is in favor of a cabinet reshuffle,” a leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) said, adding that the Prime Minister is in a mood to make some changes in the cabinet.

It should be noted that a Secretariat meeting of the ruling NCP held at Perisdanda Sunday afternoon decided in principle to reshuffle the cabinet.

According to party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the meeting discussed in detail about cabinet reshuffle, making the government’s performance more effective, among others issues.

A party leader, meanwhile, said that Prime Minister Oli did not mention the names of the ministers, who will be shown the door.

Meanwhile, NCP Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, too, was in favor of reshuffling the cabinet. “The ministers should be removed or retained as per their performances,” the leaders quoted Dahal as saying.

Dahal was of the opinion that some lawmakers, who are capable and skilled, also need to get the opportunity lead the ministries.

The party leaders will discuss the probable names, it is learned.

The meeting of the Secretariat will continue on Monday.

Likewise, Sunday’s meeting also discussed the appointments in the Constitutional bodies.

Meanwhile, the meeting also proposed regular financial assistance to the party central committee members and whole-timers.

Shrestha said that the issue of financial assistance to whole-time party cadres was also discussed in today’s meeting.

The SC meeting held on September 11 had made decisions on various issues including the government’s performance, party organization, general convention of the party, border disputes, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), terms of reference of two chairmen, coronavirus control and prevention among others.

The meeting also dwelt on the implementation of these decisions, Shrestha said.

The Secretariat meeting took place at Perisdanda in Koteshwor, the central party headquarters of the then CPN (Maoist Center).

NCP held its meeting at Perisdanda for the first time following the unification between the two communist parties.
