60 Nepali migrant workers repatriated from Oman

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Oman has said that a total of 830 Nepali migrant workers returned home in five rescue flights so far after the outbreak of pandemic coronavirus infection.

In a press statement today, the embassy stated that efforts are ongoing to repatriate Nepalis in time as per the migrant workers’ wishes in the face of a pandemic outbreak.

On Friday, a total of 165 Nepalis including 39 women returned home from the fifth rescue flight. Earlier, the PCR tests of all crew members and returnees, all negative, were confirmed.

Meanwhile, Netra Kumari Rawat of Jhapa, a domestic worker in Oman who was missing since 2070 BS, was also repatriated back home on Friday.

It is said that her son Nabaraj had applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to repatriate his mother.

The embassy said that the woman was contacted through diplomatic channels and evidence lodged by her son. It has also facilitated to take the woman up to her home, given her critical health condition.

Likewise, Aruna Maden of Taplejung and Gaj Kumari Shrestha of Syangja, who were stranded in Oman, have been sent back home on the Friday flight. It is said that both the women had landed in Oman for a foreign job via illegal routes in the tourist visa – all at the hand of human traffickers.

Furthermore, almost 60 workers, including the domestic help, were brought back in the rescue flight.

Nepal’s Ambassador in Muscat Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal and other embassy officials bade farewell to all Nepali migrant workers upon their return to home.
