KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to transform Bir Hospital into COVID-19 special hospital to treat only Covid-19 infected patients.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Health and Population with Minister Bhanubhakta Dhakal, senior officials of the ministry and the Vice-Chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Director of Bir Hospital decided to transform the hospital into a COVID-19 special hospital.

As the number of patients coming to Bir Hospital has decreased due to Covid-19, Dr. Kedar Century, Director of the hospital said that arrangements are being made to provide services to the patients from the National Trauma Center.

“Preparations are being made to shift non COVID-19 patients to trauma centers as per the government’s instructions,” he said.

Recently, even during the coronavirus epidemic, general patients were receiving treatment at the Bir Hospital.

However, the outpatient service has been closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 infected health workers in the hospital.

At present, corona infection has been confirmed in 73 persons including doctors, nurses, health workers and staffers of Bir Hospital. Most of the hospital’s employees are staying in isolation.
