Over 1,000 children below 10 years test coronavirus positive in Nepal



KATHMANDU: Expanding its grip on the children, the coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 1000 children in Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, out of 26,660 coronavirus cases in the country, more than 1,019 children below 10 years have tested positive for coronavirus.

The Ministry informed that majority of the children infected are boys. Out of the 1,019 children below 10 years, 618 are boys whereas 401 are girls.

The Ministry’s data says Suduarpaschim Province has reported the highest number of coronavirus cases among the children whereas Gandaki the least.

Sudurpaschim has reported 446 children below 10 years with coronavirus positive. Similarly, Province 2 has 210 and Province 5 136 COVID-19 cases.

Karnali, Bagmati and Province 1 have seen 80, 60 and 50 cases among the children respectively.

With 36 children suffering from the coronavirus pandemic, Gandaki Province has the least number of COVID-19 cases.

According to the Ministry, 20 districts including Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Paanchthar, Ilam, Dolakha, Rasuwa, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Manang, Mustang, Kaski, Rukum East, Dolpa and Humla have not seen any coronavirus cases in children below 10 years.

School-going children are among the worst hit group.
