Government stalls proposed master plan on Pashupati Temple area

KATHMANDU: The government has shelved the proposed implementation of a master plan for the development of the Pashupati area following protests from the locals.

The plan set by the Pashupati Area Development Trust had proposed demolishing some residential houses in the Pashupati Temple in a bid to construct other structures.

Minister for Culture and Tourism, Yogesh Bhattarai formed a three-member committee comprising government officials to discuss the plan with stakeholders including the locals.

The committee has chiefs of the Culture Division and Planning Division in the ministry, and the Department of Archaeology’s Director-General, and has been entrusted to submit a report in one month.
