Fake gold case: Durbarmarg Police Chief relieved of responsibility

KATHMANDU: Chief of Durbarmarg Police Circle DSP Ranjan Dahal has been removed from his post in connection with the incident of a vehicle escaping by throwing a ‘15 kg gold’ in front of police.

Dahal has been transferred to the Police Academy.

The incident has courted controversy after the vehicle escaped hoodwinking the police personnel. It was also later revealed the incident had happened at Sundhara not at Kamaladi as claimed earlier by the police.

Meanwhile, police have located a jeep that a gang used for carrying fake gold and weapons.

A police team deployed from Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu had found the jeep parked at an under-construction house in Nakhipot in Lalitpur.

Police had found 15 kg of gold-like metal and two pistols inside a bag left behind by a person who ran away helter-skelter on the vehicle after noticing police.

However, it was later revealed that only 500 grams out of 15 kilograms of gold-like metal was real gold while remaining metal was gold-plated silver.

The law enforcement agency has nabbed three Indian nationals for their alleged involvement in the incident.
