CIAA Chief seeks coordinated, integrated moves to curb corruption

KATHMANDU: Chief Commissioner of Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Nabin Kumar Ghimire has said that the CIAA was carrying out works in an independent manner for corruption control.

In a meeting of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Sunday, Ghimire argued that there was no alternative to making the CIAA stronger to curb corruption with support of all sides.

He further mentioned that coordinated and integrated initiative was needed to curb policy-level corruption which is taking place in an organized manner.

Saying that systems and policies are the main elements to control corruption, the Chief Commissioner stated that laws should be strong and the CIAA should be made institutionalized through by Acts that are under consideration in the parliament.

On the occasion, Ghimire said, “The CIAA has been carrying out investigation over the issue of security press purchase as well.”

Similarly, Commissioners Dr Ganeshraj Joshi and Dr Sabitri Gurung expressed the views that the CIAA should be made stronger to resolve the problems related to corruption including those of policy-level.

During the meeting, lawmakers drew the attention of CIAA office-bearers saying that corruption was on the rise and CIAA has failed to control policy-level corruption.

Pointing out the need of effective laws to control corruption being developed in an organized way, they suggested the CIAA office-bearers to develop CIAA as an independent body.
