Department of Passport issues over 11,000 passports during lockdown



KATHMANDU: The Department of Passport has issued 11,321 passports during the lockdown enforced to stem the spread of coronavirus.

According to the record maintained by the department, 8,129 men and 3,192 women have applied for passports during the period.

The department based in Narayanhiti, Kathmandu had witnessed a sharp decline in the number of service seekers after the lockdown was clamped on March 24. The number of people visiting the department for passports has increased after the lockdown was eased on June 15.

According to the Department of Passport, around 600 to 700 service recipients visit daily before the lockdown.

Spokesperson of the Department of Passport Shatrudhan Pokharel said that 2,033 service recipients visited the department during the lockdown period.
