Locusts invade Pyuthan district yet again



PYUTHAN: Invasion of locusts has been witnessed again in Pyuthan district.

Swarms of locusts were seen in almost all parts of the district on Monday.

People have started scaring the insects by beating tins and plates to save the maize crops.

Farmers are worried as their efforts to scare the locusts were not effective.

Locals also applied smoke in the maize fields but could not succeed as they could not chase away the locusts come in number of hundreds of thousands.

Maize, rice, maize and vegetables have been damaged.

All 10 wards of Pyuthan Municipality have been affected by the locust invasion. According to Suman Khanal, Officiating Chief of Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit (Rice Zone) in the district, all villages in Pyuthan have witnessed locust invasion.
