If pilot catches coronavirus, bus drivers, too, would: Transport entrepreneurs

KATHMANDU: The transport entrepreneurs have vehemently stated that the government’s decision to operate the public transport service is unacceptable.

Saroj Sitaula, General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) said that they will  not abide by the decision taken by the government arguing that the decision is wrong.

He maintained that vehicles will not be operated unless the government fulfills their demands including health insurance, permission to the state level for operating vehicles and postponement of bank installment.

He went on to say that there should be provision for refinancing, availability of health items, an arrangement of a tunnel for disinfecting vehicles at major checkpoints and bus parks, and passengers should be provided with masks and gloves.

The government should make a PCR test report mandatory for passengers before boarding the pubic vehicles in the country.

“A PCR test is mandatory for Nepalis from abroad before they are rescued,” he said. What is the provision for a driver here in Nepal? What is the condition of the vehicle operator? Who is responsible for this? We can’t drive unless the government guarantees. ”, he questioned.

He maintained that all 294 members of the federation will not operate vehicles until government fulfills their demands.
