Death toll in Myagdi landslide climbs to 27



MYAGDI: The death toll in Myagdi landslides occurred on Friday in Dhaulagiri, Malika and Raghuganga Rural Municipalities reached 27, the local officials confirmed.

According to Police, three persons who had gone missing after the landslides have come into contact while four others are still missing.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kiran Jung Kunwar said that dead bodies of 18 people of Marang in Dhaulagiri-6, eight of Bim in Malika-7 and one of Thadakhani in Raghuganga-6 were recovered today.

According to DSP Kunwar, the dead bodies of Tul Bahadur Chhetri, Sukana Lamgade, Ashish Damgade, Ayush Lamgade, Ayusha Lamgade, Reshma Sunar, Man Sunar, Kamala Shreepali, Surakshya Shreepali, Suraj Shreepali, Prakash KC, Hiramati Jugjali, Karishma Jugjali, Kanchan Jugjali, Gaushara Jugjali, Dima Jugjali, Dipti Jugjali and Diwan Jugjali of Marang were recovered.

Similarly, Bishnu Poudel, Ichchha Poudel, Gaudevi Nepali, Bishesh Nepali, Bir Bahadur Nepali, Nisha Nepali, Bishnu Nepali and Sandip Nepali were also buried in the landslide at Bim village in Malika-7.

Likewise, 50-year-old Naliman Chhantyal of Thadakhani in Raghuganga was swept away in Lapu river.

Dhan Bahadur Jugjali, 40, Ritu Kumari Jugjali, 33, and Arjun Jugjali of Reekh in Marang have come into contacts.

Those missing in the landslides including Alisa KC of Malika-7, Janima KC and Sabin Pun of Dhawalagiri-6 and Gita Roka of Malika-6 were not found yet, the police said.

According to police, 590 people from Dhawalagiri, 196 from Malika, 85 from Raghuganga and 25 from Beni Municipality have been shifted to safer site after the disaster.

Likewise, 12 persons have been rescued from the landslides and were taken to Beni Hospital, Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital and Kathmandu.
