KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has given the permission to three private laboratories to conduct PCR tests.

The Kathmandu Medical College, Central Diagnostic Laboratory and the Star Hospital have been given permission to carry out PCR tests, according to the Ministry.

With this, the Ministry will send samples to these laboratories for tests.

It should be noted that as many as 23 laboratories are currently carrying out some 4,000 tests a day across the country.

The government now prepares to set up at least 10 new laboratories for PCR tests as the Ministry is under immense pressure to carry out the tests due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.

According to sources, the government will pay Rs 5,500 for each test to the private laboratories.
