Health Ministry fails to meet target of 10,000 PCR tests daily

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has again failed to meet the target of 10,000 PCR tests per day set for June 29.

Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal has failed again to meet the target he set for PCR tests enhancement by June 29.

Earlier, speaking in the parliaments three weeks before, Minister Dhakal had assured the lawmaker that the country would incapacitate the resources so as to execute 10,000 tests per day by June 29.

However, the spokesperson of the Ministry informed in the regular press meet on June 29 that there had been 7,791 PCR and 1,822 RDT tests in the last 24 hours which is actually more than 200 below the target.

Minister Dhakal had declared to enhance the capacity of the existing 22 laboratories conducting the PCR tests, arrange to add 10 more hospitals for the tests and include the private laboratories.

According to Dr. Jageswor Gautam, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population there are 57,368 people living in the quarantines set up in different parts of the country.
