US bans foreign workers till December-end

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has restricted American visas to foreigners until December-end of 2020.

The Trump administration has decided to provide relief package to those who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, this decision has been criticized by the tech industry as well as politicians on both sides of the aisle as damaging to the U.S. economy.

It is learnt that Indian information technology companies and staffers associated with them will be hit hard due to suspension of ‘H1-B’ visas.

US issues 85,000 ‘H1-B’ visas every year. Of them, 70 percent visa recipients are Indians.
High-skilled manpower associated with technology and those from non-agricultural workers and high-ranking officials will be affected due to Trump’s decision.

The order, however, does not apply to existing green card holders, spouses and children of US citizens, those already in the US on temporary work visas or their derivative visas.
