Ex-King Gyanendra expresses sorrow over storm-induced deaths



KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and propriety damages caused by the deadly cyclone that ripped through Bara district of Province 2 on Sunday evening.

“I am deeply shocked by the windstorm that lashed out at Bara and Parsad districts on Sunday evening, causing deaths and damages of properties,” said Gyanendra Shah, adding, “I would like to express condole the deaths and wish speedy recovery of those who sustained critical injuries in the incident.”

A deadly tornado ripped through Bhaluhi, Bharbaliya, Feta, Chainpur and Dharmapur areas of Bara district yesterday evening, the worst cyclone in history that killed 32 people and injured over 500 people.

Meanwhile, an emergency cabinet meeting of Province 2 held this morning decided to provide Rs 300,000 in relief to each family of the deceased and formed a five-member high level rescue and relief committee in response to the disaster.

Prime KP Oli has left for the disaster-hit areas to take stock of the life and property damages, according to his aide Chetan Adhikari.
