Nepal to ease lockdown phase-wise, High-Level Committee discusses modalities



KATHMANDU: The government has planned to ease the lockdown phase-wise.

A meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Sunday discussed the action plan to open the lockdown in a phase-wise, Narayan Prasad Bidari, Spokesperson at the committee said.

In the first phase, the government is preparing to open areas for economic activities, including banking and financial transactions, agricultural products, essential services, health and relief.

Similarly, the meeting also discussed different modalities to ease the restrictions.

The first modality mentions that the most important sectors are opened first and then the other every two weeks. This modality was first proposed by the Army to the CCMC.

The second modality is based on the color zone. The situation of coronavirus infection across the country is said to be divided on the basis of color and loosening of the lockdown according to color.

It is proposed to divide the affected area into red, yellow and orange or amber colors. The most affected area will be termed as red, the affected as yellow and the least affected as amber or orange.

In the third modality proposed in the CCMC, it is mentioned that areas according to the need of the people will be opened. Urgently needed areas will be opened first and other later.
