Heavy snow makes ABC trek riskier

KATHMANDU: The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek has become risky following heavy snow this year, media report said.

Although the trekking route that was closed for a long period opened recently, trekkers are having hard time to reach the Base Camp due to heavy pile of snow. Hotels at the Base Camp are not operating as they have been submerged by the snow which has worried tourism entrepreneurs, reports Nagarik Daily.

Entrepreneur Chandra Bhujel who recently returned from the Base Camp informed that trek to Deurali from Chomrong is hassle-free. But, trek from Deurali to Base Camp is full of risks due to heavy snow.

‘There is a high risk in trek from Deurali to Base Camp as an avalanche could hit the area any time,’ he said, adding that most of the tourists are forced to return from Deurali while few have succeeded to reach Base Camp.
