Stringent action against those involved in heinous crimes: PM



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the government was determined to take stringent possible action against those involved in heinous acts of untouchability.

In a message on the occasion of the National Day against Racial Discrimination and Untouchability, he said the problem of racial discrimination and untouchability was a problem not only of a particular community but that of every individual, family, society and the nation.

“I urge all individuals, families, societies and concerned authorities to be sensitive in protecting the human rights of the survivors of racial untouchability,” he said.

As per the national aspiration of Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis, the present government aims to achieve prosperity along with social justice and equality.

“Although the Constitutions and law have clear provisions and government’s firm determination against backwardness, such heinous crimes as untouchability are still occurring here challenging our efforts for change,” he said, adding that intolerance and poverty are behind such untouchability.

The government does not tolerate such social exclusion, untouchability and violence. Action will be taken against those involved in the inhuman violence as caste-based discrimination and untouchability.

The Prime Minister also sought cooperation from all sides to eliminate such social blots and respect people’s right to live a dignified life.
