COVID-19 in Province-5: Challenge to carry out tests

BUTWAL: Test for coronavirus has become challenging with the increasing number of coronavirus infected people in Province-5.

Corona test labs are now in operation at three places– Bheri Hospital, Banke, Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, Dang, and Bhairahawa of Rupandehi in the Province.

In a weekly virtual meeting of Province-level COVID-19 Human Rights Monitoring Committee of National Human Rights Commission, on Monday, Social Development Minister of Province-5 government, Sudarshan Baral, said that failing to widen the scope of the test in the Province is the main challenge.

“We are going to bring another lab at Lumbini Province Hospital, Butwal, into operation in order to widen the scope for the test,” he said.

Chief of Health Division of the Social Development Ministry, Dr. Umashankar Chaudhary, said that a total of 15,629 people underwent coronavirus test in the Province till this afternoon.

Of them, 611 people tested positive for COVID-19 while 10,629 tested negative.

He shared that this data is updated every hour. Out of 12 districts in Province-5, the highest number of coronavirus infected people is from Kapilvastu which is 308.

Similarly, 189 people tested positive for coronavirus in Banke, 50 in Rupandehi, 36 in Dang and 10 in Bardiya.
The coronavirus has not been detected in Pyuthan and Rolpa districts of Province-5. A total of three persons of Province-5 lost their lives due to coronavirus so far.

A total of 100 coronavirus infected people of Province-5 have returned home after recovery, added Minister Baral.

There are 1,500 beds in isolation units in the Province. He further said that there is a sufficient number of health workers to be deputed in treatment of COVID-19 infected people and the Province government has been preparing details of students pursuing MBBS and MD degree in four medical college of the Province in government scholarship and has been making plan to depute them if needed.

Likewise, Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Arati Poudel, shared that the ministry has been making coordination to provide seeds of paddy recommended by the Nepal Agriculture Research Council.

Minister Poudel mentioned that the ministry has also set a pan to make arrangement of market of the agro products produced by farmers through cooperatives.

Similarly, officiating chief of National Human Rights Commission Province-5, Indrajit Sahani, presented a report on human rights situation in the Province in lockdown, initiatives taken by the state government to control coronavirus, and service and facilities providing its citizens. RSS
