Mental illness, suicide cases rise in Nepal amid Covid-19 crisis: Pandit



KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Lal Babu Pandit has said that the cases of suicide is ten times more than the number of deaths due to prolonged lockdown.

Speaking during the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, he drew the attention of the federal government and said that there was no proper quarantine at the local level.

He requested the federal government to allocate budget to established quarantine in the local levels.

Lawmaker Bina Kumari Shrestha thanked Nepali Congress party for maintaining national unity by supporting in the constitution amendment on Nepal’s new updated map. She also demanded an investigation into the incident in Rukum West.

Similarly, lawmaker Shashi Shrestha said that people have been facing difficult problems for 69 days. She demanded to make public life comfortable and orderly by keeping a certain distance as per the standards of the World Health Organization.

Lockdown stressed the need to increase production and solve the middleman problem to become self-reliant as it has a negative impact on the economy.

NCP’s lawmaker Shanta Chaudhary termed the Rukum incident as black day. She also demanded for the earliest action who are involved in the killed due to caste. She also demanded action against the perpetrators of the crime.
